Referral Coordinator - Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
- Review and process all diagnostic, specialty, and miscellaneous referral requests from clinical staff.
- Obtain patient insurance verification and authorization for referrals, scheduling appointments as needed.
- Conduct phone consultations with clients regarding their referral status.
- Handle prior authorization requests from clinical staff efficiently.
- Keep accurate records using Centricity EHRS.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with providers and referral sources.
- Adhere to regulations for a Patient Centered Medical Home and HIPAA Guidelines.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with Medicare/Medicaid regulations.
- Ensure proper documentation of service coordination.
- Follow up and complete orders for referred patients.
- Initiate and complete forms for provider review and signature.
- Provide phone contact and motivation for patients needing imaging services and preventative cancer screenings.
- Send reminder phone calls and letters to patients.
- Set and confirm medical appointments as needed.
- Participate in our Performance Improvement Program for care coordination.
- Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of experience in medical assistance, referral coordinator, insurance verification, or medical prior authorization.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong typing and computer skills.
- Must be computer savvy with strong MS Office knowledge, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
- Professional written and verbal communications skills.
