RCM Specialist II - Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
- Update and maintain patient accounts within medical software to ensure accuracy of demographic and policy information.
- Scan/photocopy patients' identification, insurance cards, and correspondence as needed.
- Process billing calls and correspondence from patients, staff, and third-party carriers promptly.
- Communicate daily with internal and external customers via phone and written communications.
- Document patient accounts accurately and completely.
- Post payments, adjustments, and remittances from all payers electronically and manually.
- Post zero pays, partial pays, and adjustments as indicated on payer remits.
- Monitor, review, and process credits from credit balance reports.
- Complete and maintain daily balance and variance reports for cash handling.
- Conduct in-depth research when payments and adjustments result in a credit balance or undistributed funds.
- Interpret explanation of benefits (EOB) and balance transfers to secondary insurance or patient liability.
- Coordinate with the RCM team for denials, underpayments, zero pays, and unidentified payments.
- Assist in reconciling deposit and patient collections.
- Participate in the Performance Improvement Program and pursue ongoing education.
- Work independently, maintaining productivity standards and performance goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to team efforts and special projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in a medical revenue cycle environment.
- Previous experience in a medical office RCM setting.
- Training or background in Revenue Cycle Cash Posting/Refunds Processing preferred.
- EPIC Certification &/or experience preferred but not required.
- Basic to Intermediate Excel proficiency.
- Customer service driven.
- Understanding of medical terminology and insurance laws/guidelines.
- Excellent organization and time management skills along with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to identify calculation/posting errors that prevent reconciliation Ability to learn quickly, build and maintain long term relationships and work with minimal supervision Must be able to manage time to ensure daily cash posted and reconciled at end of each shift.
