Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize real-time work lists to efficiently manage and prioritize workload for patient insurance verification and authorization prior to scheduled exam dates.
  • Coordinate with Emdeon for seamless electronic verifications and establish thorough verification records for auditing purposes.
  • Daily verification of patient insurance eligibility and determination of individual plan benefits for scheduled exams and BH testing.
  • Acquire necessary clinical history from referring physicians to secure required authorizations.
  • Adhere to Documentation Guidelines for recording benefits and authorization statuses in the patient's medical record in Centricity.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and referring physicians regarding non-covered benefits or exam coverage issues, ensuring compliance with HIPAA Guidelines.
  • Offer support and expertise to Clinic Staff, Scheduling Staff, and other departments on Authorization and Eligibility matters.
  • Stay informed of updates in Payor authorization requirements and communicate changes to appropriate staff and departments.
  • Participate in Billing, Eligibility, and front desk meetings to ensure synergy and efficiency across departments.
  • Attend up-training courses as scheduled and communicate relevant updates to the team.
  • Serve as a backup to the Billing Specialist when necessary and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance carrier guidelines is essential.
  • Strong detail-oriented skills with the proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in insurance and medical terminology.
  • Experience establishing effective working relationships with Payors, patients, physicians, and clinic staff.
