About the Position
Laboratory Operations Manager provides operational and technical oversight for the In-House Laboratory Department throughout the Legacy service areas. Primary responsibilities include managing laboratory staff, overseeing the point of care testing program, supporting laboratory activities for Legacy, streamlining workflows, tracking metrics for the laboratory department, and adhering to regulatory requirements as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). This position works closely with leadership across the organization to ensure best practices are implemented and followed to reduce preventable errors.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise day-to-day activities of laboratory staff to ensure that department policies are being followed.
- Delegate responsibilities and manage work schedules for laboratory staff and enforce the Legacy attendance policy.
- Act as the Technical Consultant for the point of care testing program.
- Support point of care testing users throughout the organization by overseeing user training and compliance.
- Regularly assess Legacy laboratories, identifying gaps and risks.
- Provide Epic support and on-going training for staff by becoming a super user.
- Actively promote feedback and collaboration with the Operations, SBH, Clinical and Nursing teams to identify ways of improving laboratory services.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, and evaluating prospective team members.
- Perform performance reviews and coaching/disciplinary action for direct reports.
- Track quality and performance metrics on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, to show trends, successful performance, and opportunities.
- Assist with maintaining vendor relationships to improve the overall patient experience.
- Lead cross-functional workgroups and improvement projects.
- Assist with resolving incident reports and patient complaints.
- Participate in monthly leadership meetings.
- Complete and present strategic plans for quality improvement and operational efficiency.
- Ensure appropriate inventory levels for quality control, reagents, and laboratory supplies are stocked.
- Oversee maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Assist with establishing a Laboratory Quality Plan that includes process improvement, accreditation, and continuous learning.
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external inspections.
- Follow the Legacy guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree is required.
MLS(ASCP) or equivalent is required.
- Five (5) years of experience in a laboratory setting is required.
- Previous experience working in point of care testing is required.
- A master’s degree in business or healthcare operations (or equivalent) may substitute for 2 years of experience in the healthcare setting.
