Pharmacist - Training and Development (Job Overview)

Schedule: Monday-Friday (8AM-5PM)

As the Pharmacist – Training & Development, you will shape the knowledge, confidence, and performance of pharmacy professionals throughout the department.

You will provide leadership for pharmacy training programs and schedules, helping pharmacists, technicians, and support staff receive consistent development aligned with Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and high-quality performance standards. Through mentorship, quality assurance, regulatory awareness, and collaboration, you will help build a capable, connected pharmacy team.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Lead the development, oversight, and execution of training programs for all levels of pharmacy services.
  • Support onboarding, competency development, performance improvement, and mentorship for pharmacy staff.
  • Help maintain compliance with pharmacy practice regulations, 340b, URAC, and related standards.
  • Collaborate with student and residency programs, affiliated schools of pharmacy, and the organization’s learning and development department.
  • Contribute to quality improvement projects and audits that strengthen pharmacy operations and patient care.
  • Help pharmacy professionals deliver safe, consistent, high-quality service within the community healthcare ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Onboard all pharmacy staff including pharmacists, technicians and other supportive staff according to the Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Identify gaps in the employee’s knowledge and performance and provide direction in training and quality assurance programs
  • Maintains all aspects of employee documentation including competencies and performance in accordance with the regulatory standards
  • Maintains an understanding of the rules and regulations for pharmacy practice, 340b and URAC.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are monitored and updated to include regulatory changes
  • Designs, develops, and executes training programs for all levels of pharmacy services
  • Provides mentorship to new employees
  • Performs audits for employee performance
  • Provides assistance in employee disciplinary actions regarding performance
  • Participates in quality improvement projects
  • Serves as a liaison to the student and residency programs with affiliated schools of pharmacy
  • Serves as a liaison to the organization’s learning and development department and ensures appropriate alignment and collaboration
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited college/university of pharmacy (Pharm.D or B.S. with equivalent experience)
  • Valid license from the Board of Pharmacy of the State of Texas
  • Must maintain First Aid /CPR

Required Years of Experience

  • 5+ years of pharmacist experience

Desirable Education and/or Experience

  • Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Certification
  • Experience in training and development

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

  • Computer experience – Windows, Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

  • Significant knowledge and expertise in advanced pharmacy practice, specialty medication therapy management, and specialty evidence-based medicine in area appropriate for clinical assignments.
